State Of The Union... Of Major College Football Programs

After delivering a powerful State of the Union address earlier this week where he covered a wide range of topics from the economy to healthcare to the War on Terror, President Obama has now decided to tackle probably the most complex and frustrating topic of his young presidency - The BCS. As a result of Utah senator Orrin Hatch constantly complaining about his hometown Utes, a Utah state public university, getting shafted from the big-time national championship payout ($30mil+), the Obama administration has apparently begun looking into the legality of the BCS in its current state. There is talk that the FTC may get involved as they attempt to figure out the dispute over the way in which we select our national championship game contenders and the schools it leaves on the outside looking in.

After this years sloppy championship game between Texas & Alabama, and the very high quality Fiesta Bowl played by TCU & Boise St, it seems like this would be a great way to give the fans what they want. While I'm as much of a college football nut as there is (I scheduled my wedding to be on the weekend Miami played Duke so I knew I wasnt gonna miss much and watched the following weeks game against UNC on my laptop in the lobby of our Thailand hotel - very romantic!), I wont pretend for a moment to argue that the fan's wanting to see a more "fair" system for determining an annual champ is something that warrants the time of the president... however, if Sen Hatch has figured out a legitimate gripe about certain public institutions being cheated out of millions of dollars that they rightfully deserve, well then I'm all for B.O. to step in and apply some of that political pressure to the college football powers that be (and if the fans happen to be the big winners then thats a mighty fine coincidence)

Just please don't turn this into the DMV or some awful government run disaster (ala the 2000 election) where I've got to wait a month after the bowl games until the Supreme Court picks a champion.

Do you think the feds should be getting involved in the BCS?
Heck ya - I vote and I care more about football than I do about healthcare

if they can have grill those imposter couple that got into the presidential dinner by so called mistake

they can look into the bcs. i’m just glad espn has the rights to show the bcs games now. many at espn have already said the mwc deserves an aq bcs conference status. if they are saying it to us on college gameday i’m sure even more of them want it behind the scenes. a playoff is coming and there is nothing that mike slive, john swofford, dan beebe or mr. delaney can do about it.

i'm all about covering the spread and moneylines. i was building a house, i don't deserve this, deserves have nothing to do with it. bang. "unforgiven"

I’d rather see them look into why the NCAA is considered a non-profit.
